Learning the Throw-ins

Soccer is a popular game in almost every corner of the world. Though the game appears to be an easy one because it is played with a single ball, it involves a variety of different rules or laws. FIFA is the apex governing body that sets rules for the game. Well, very few soccer lovers are well aware of the game rules. One of the important game rules is the ‘throw-in’ which people give less importance comparing more prominent terms of direct kicks and penalty kicks.

In a throw-in, the ball is played out of the field of play when it somehow crosses the sideline. At the time of throw-in, most of the times, an outfield player comes into action and handles the ball. And at the time of throw-in, he is not punished with a free-kick or penalty-kick for handling the ball.

Throw-ins occur many more times during the game. Most of the time, a hard-hit ball crosses the sideline. And the ball is to be thrown back to the field. Throw-ins are very much a part of the game and can never be replaced with a kick-ins, as many soccer experts would be thinking. Since a throw-in occurs more often in a game than penalty kicks and free kicks, every player should know how to play a throw-in in a proper manner.

While taking a throw-in, a player must adhere to certain rules and regulations of the game. Though it appears to be a simple process of bringing the ball back into the action, it may prove decisive for a team to strike a goal. Thus, the match referee closely observes the throw-ins so that the rules are followed strictly.

The very first thing is that the ball is to be thrown back in from the same point at which it had crossed the sideline. The player who goes to take the throw-in must keep both his feet on the ground and should stay behind the line while throwing the ball. The player must launch the ball from the behind of his head.

Throw-in is an effective way to bring the ball back to the game-zone and restart the play. However, a bad throw-in can prove just costly to a team when the ball is grabbed by the opposite team. So, a player should perform a good throw-in so that the ball could be possessed by his other team players only. He should be confident enough to launch the ball at a point where one of his team players can easily take control of it. For this, he needs to be very confident and a quick-decision maker. In a fraction of second, he would have to identify the area where he could throw-in the ball to make it an advantageous move for his team.

While throwing-in the ball, the player should show his quickness and positive calculations. Any sort of hesitation or doubt may prove disastrous for his team. His team members too need to assess fast as to where he is going to throw-in the ball. A simple mistake can result into a disastrous moment where the opposite team would move forward to strike the goal.

Learn to Head the Ball Properly

How exciting it is when you see someone jumping high and heading the ball while it is still in the air. A player performs such a head shot with a wonderful efficiency that he develops after lots of practice in the youth soccer drills.

So, to get that perfection, start practicing for heading skills. If you are going to practice heading for the first time, deflate the ball a bit. By doing so, you release some air out of the ball and make it little supple.

In heading, the player will have to position himself to be just below the ball while it is still in air. This assessment should be accurate otherwise the ball will land on the ground and you will miss the ball. Thus, the first thing you need to learn is to make contact with the ball with your head. For this, you will have to keep your eyes on the ball, all the way when it starts approaching the ground. This way, you will be able to position yourself below the ball and able to strike it with your forehead.

You need to keep your eyes open and watch the ball coming to the ground. You can be seriously hurt if you don’t keep your eyes open. You need to use your top-front part of your forehead to strike the ball and not with the top of your head.

The proper heading techniques are taught in almost all youth soccer drills.  Some of those drills have been explained below for your better understanding of heading skills.

Sitting and Knees: This drill in youth soccer coaching can be practiced between two players using one ball. Now, tell one player to sit on the ground with his feet straight out in front of him. Now, the other player stands in front of the sitting player and throws the ball towards him. Start at a very low level and gradually raise the height of your throw.

Now, make the player to sit in another fashion with his both knees set on the ground. Throw the ball in the same manner and ask him to head the ball. While trying to head the ball, the player will have to limp forward a little. This drill will train the player to effectively direct the ball in a particular direction with his head.

Head out of Hands: For this drill, get cones and a ball for each of the practicing players. Now, the player needs to hold the ball with his hands and then make the ball to jump forward out of your hands by heading it. Using cones, you can learn to head the balls in a specific direction.

Using such soccer drills, you can develop the skill of heading. By practicing with your team players, you can get the confidence to head the ball perfectly in a match without the fear of getting hurt. Heading of soccer ball can be extremely helpful in a match for a team to keep the ball in its possession and play a winning stroke.

Learn Game Sequence of Soccer

The importance of soccer practice games is understood by very few people who want to master the game. There are several levels to learn soccer and one has to enhance his skills, in order to become easily comfortable with the ball. A kid learning soccer has to pass through different levels of the game to become a skilled soccer player.

At the very first level, kids learning soccer need to pay a great concentration. At the beginning, kids have to learn the techniques involved and then gradually develop it by consistence practice with the ball. Coaches have to pay special attention on the kids at the beginning level.  They should be attentive and pay attention on the strokes played by the kids while training them. Kids need extra training and attention initially, as they are not aware of the mechanism of controlling the ball.

Secondly, coaches should work on the style of kids or players and enhance them, as it may prove beneficiary for the team to play the game with more power. To make kids well versed in the game, it’s better to divide kids into small groups and make them play. This techniques helps kids to become confident and self reliable while playing the shots and moving forward along with the ball. Making kids to play in a small group gives them an opportunity to play freely and explore all the areas of the game. The player should be trained in such a manner that he can make quick decisions which is an important aspect of playing soccer. It is very important to provide more space to the kids where they can experiment with the ball.  By playing in a group of few players they become advanced in the game and here comes the role of the coaches to bring some twist and turn in the practice session.

The next level calls for some advanced level of practice. Since now kids have become well practiced in the game, it’s now coach’s responsibility to bring some sort of modifications into their playing styles. In this level, kids or the players should be made to play in a big group with proper game rules. To make them well versed in the game rules, it is important for the coach to train them and make aware of all the rules and regulations of the game. Inform them of all the game strategies and make them to practice accordingly. Train the kids lightly and softly and pressurize them to perform better and better on the field. Keep the training process slow and steady. The coach should focus on making the roots of the kids strong.

In the subsequent level, the coaches should make the players and the kids to play a game imposed with various rules which would expose them to various playing techniques. Make them understand how to understand the game and manipulate the strategy. They should be trained in such a manner that they can confidently and intelligently make use of their skills in the field.

Last level focuses on building team spirit among the players. This is the phase to listen to the kids’ viewpoint and make them responsible enough to actively make decisions on the field.

How to Become a Good Soccer Player

How to Become a Good Soccer Player? Well, it’s a million-dollar question. Who will answer this? David Beckham or Diego Maradona? Perhaps, no one can answer it so simply because there is no fixed rule for it.

But anyway, we can outline some success mantra that can make a soccer player really successful in the field. First of all, if you want to be a great soccer player, you would have to love the game of soccer. Your love for the game will eventually make you a better player. Soccer is an intensely competitive game and demands all players to be fast and energetic. Thus, you need to be extra fast and develop your potentials and stamina that would keep you going on from one corner of the field to the other. You definitely need to put in hard work. There is absolutely no short-cut to become successful in soccer. Ask Ronaldo and he too won’t deny from this fact.

So, work on your body. This is the primary thing that you need to do in order to become a better soccer player. You need to take good care of yourself both inside and outside the soccer field. Healthy and balanced diet must be part of your daily routine. You need to stay in shape and cannot just gorge on anything, anytime. It’s better if you can consult a diet expert and get ready a diet chart for yourself. You should strictly follow that diet chart and eat healthy food only.

Many soccer players, besides practicing soccer for long hours everyday, also take part in other training programs such as physical endurance that help them keep going for long hours without feeling any sort of tiredness. You must develop the capacity to run for hours and keep pace with your other team players while beating your opponents in speed and accuracy. All this you can attain, if you enjoy a good physical status.

Next, there are several star players but in order to be successful in soccer, everyone needs to be a team player. A soccer star may have better strategy and more energy but he can’t think himself of being a super hero to win the match all alone. You may dream of becoming next Pele but you can’t avoid playing in a team.

Then, it’s practice that makes a soccer player perfect in this game. You may have to spend months in practicing the game before you can actually think of playing a live match. And there are a wide range of skills that you need to practice and gain proficiency.

After your commitment and determination to become a great soccer player, you will have to learn the game. There are so many rules and regulations and unless you know them you can’t play the game properly. You may have to hire a professional coach to learn the ins and outs of the soccer game. Once you know the game, you can develop your own style or strategy to play the winning stroke.

Free Soccer Drills: An Advantageous Soccer Program

One can easily guide the players regarding the role and importance of the free soccer drills. There are no rules or regulations associated with the soccer that one is expected to abide by. You can introduce your own improvised soccer drills as well. Some of the easy and comfortable soccer exercises can even be adopted through other sources and can be amended as per the needs. There are certain best practices that one can adopt so as to formulate an efficient training program for soccer.

Keep your plans as flexible as you can. This is because all the plans do not get normally implemented and plans should get molded as per the change in situations. Each and every prospective barrier should be effectively dealt with such as children might not come to play the game if it rains, reason being sickness or unwillingness. It is advisable to opt for multiple practice games. When the plan fails to work the way you want it to, just eliminate it and jump onto the next agenda. You should not insist anyone to accomplish a particular task whether it is a kid or an adult.

Indulge the kids in some warm up drills before they get onto the practice session. Warming up can be done by using the soccer ball also. They should be taught the way ball is kicked and kicked between their feet. The drills required when the kids are involved in the warming up are specifically designed in order to provide an element of fun.

Furthermore, only one soccer ball can be used by each player. Players can access the ball for various kinds of individual activities like dribbling, shooting or even hitting the ball against the wall and many more similar activities. Remember to keep the passage free for the players to move with ease and there should not be any marks or lines in the area where the game usually takes place. While the soccer coaching takes place, ensure that players abide by certain group activities after the individual activities are carried out. The drills of passing over and receiving the ball attach an element of fun to the practice. Kids should be encouraged for playing soccer in a team wherein the goalkeeper is absent. Allow the players to attain the goals and you should not set out boundaries, as they may restrict the players from playing the game to its fullest.

It proves to be quite easier to carry on a soccer exercise freely without restrictions. Such exercises inculcate in players an essence of working as a team and practicing in a limited area where use of ball is not much. Keep yourself free and thereafter assimilate various soccer drills that might be beneficial to the kids, helping them to learn and increase their knowledge. You may also gain information on coaching soccer which you can easily come across through videos, articles as well as newsletters. Players should not be fed up at any stage and only be guided by the coach.

Direct Free Kicks and Indirect Free Kicks in Soccer

Soccer is the game for the fast and furious. Every minute of the game has its importance and can be decisive in making or breaking a team. The excitement and thrill in the game is unparalleled and spectators enjoy the game with full liveliness. With every shot of the football, spectators jump with joy and the whole stadium turns into a noisy place. The accuracy of Direct Free Kicks and Indirect Free Kicks in such an exciting game is really of great importance. These free kicks can turn into a match-winning proposition for any team.

FIFA has set a rule that specifies when these free kicks could be awarded to a team. A direct free kick is given to the opposite team if a player commits any of the seven offences mentioned below. However, it largely depends upon a referee’s discretion when he considers a player’s act to be careless, wild or use of unnecessary force while playing on the field.

•    Kicks or attempts to kick an opponent
•    Trips or attempts to trip an opponent
•    Jumps at an opponent
•    Charges an opponent
•    Strikes or attempts to strike an opponent
•    Pushes an opponent
•    Tackles an opponent

Besides above mentioned offences, there are three more offences committed by a player that helps the opposite team to qualify for a direct free kick:

•    Holds an opponent
•    Spits at an opponent
•    Handles the ball intentionally (this is not applicable on the goalkeeper when he collects the ball within his own Penalty area)

A direct free kick is awarded to the opposite team, if the violation takes place outside the goalkeeper’s penalty area. The opposite team’s player can kick the ball from the place where the violation takes place.

A direct free kick is taken from the place where the offence is committed by a player. His opponent team’s player gets the chance to hit the ball. This free kick could turn as a match winning event for the team taking advantage of it. So, the player taking the free kick should be skillful enough to take utmost benefit of this kick.

Let’s discuss now indirect free kicks. In soccer, when the game is on, the goalkeeper can touch the ball again before it has been touched by another player, but he can’t touch the ball with his hands. An indirect free kick is allowed, if after the ball is in play, the goalkeeper intentionally handles the ball before another player touches it. In such a case, the opposing team is awarded with an indirect free kick. This kick is to be taken from the place where the violation takes place.

Now, the ten offences mentioned above that help the opposite team to qualify for a free kick can also be reason for a penalty kick, provided the offence is committed inside the penalty area and while the soccer ball is in play. A penalty kick can be very efficiently turned into a goal. A penalty kick is always a golden chance for a team to score a goal that a team never wants to miss.

One of the world’s most popular sports played among two teams comprising of eleven players is soccer (also called football). In such games, similar numbers of players are positioned in each place with a view to cover the entire field. On the contrary, a 2-3-1 formation is played by the other coaches who aspire to control the midfield. In this form, the abilities of goal scoring lie with the single striker. Furthermore, there has been a tremendous increase in the popularity of soccer 7’s around the globe. Its tournaments have been taken place throughout the world like China, United Kingdom etc. People aged between 5 years to 45 years and above are permitted to participate in such tournaments.

People who take part in such tournaments consider it to be important and do not consider soccer 7’s as a professional sport. They usually play it for fun and the passion that they have for the game. Traditional soccer involves a huge amount of money which is absent in case of soccer 7’s. Established and the new players both enjoy playing soccer 7’s for fun only.
